If one enters an agreement in bad faith, then they should not be trusted in the future. This should and does go both ways; in the example you gave, I doubt you would ever trust that Sony PR rep even if they did talk to you after they broke your trust. Similarly, the ones who broke Nintendo's trust should be blackballed for doing so, since they have proven to be untrustworthy. As to the reporter….. his actions have killed one outlet, no sane outlet should hire them, lest they do it again.

I was glad for the leaks only where the dex was concerned and that was the only stuff I saw. However, Nintendo is well within their rights to do this. I think your title for this vid could be better. The leaker is the one who did the ruining.

I don’t think leaks hurt sales. If you make a good game people will buy it.

That being said, if a company wants you to keep your mouth shut about their game until a certain date, you do it. You don’t go into someone’s house and grind mud on their couch like Rick James.

I think the response is appropriate in this case. Given time they probably would’ve revealed that information themselves, or allowed them to reveal it as an exclusive (ie One source gets to show Rillaboom, one gets Cinderace, and one gets Intellion). It’s not just Nintendo’s thunder being stolen. They’re pulling the rug out from underneath their fellow journalists.

Ultimately the leaker knew better. I imagine these companies stress the importance of keeping street dates so none of them can leak info and play dumb about it after the fact. I won’t go so far as to say they’ll never get another job in the industry. Someone needs to clean the toilets after burrito day.

Leakers should be punished – they broke the rules.

As you point out, F Nintendo was clearly in the wrong and of course Nintendo was going to stop working with them because of this breach of trust. Your reasoning is sound and a funny title could have been something like "F Nintendo tried to F Nintendo" (so that we're not insinuating it was Nintendo who did something malicious).

I honestly don't like any kind of spoilers so I deliberately avoid them and leaks are no exception. However, leaks regarding otherwise hidden misdeeds are always okay by me.

There is no principle more Central to a functioning society than the contract. Even the constitution itself is a contract. The worst people in dystopian fiction still honored deals. Leakers who break agreements are the worst kind of scum.

How to punish – take them out into the town square and beat them senseless with a rusty crowbar

Average customers don't care it really doesn't effect them at all because the information will eventually come out.
Rating: indifferent.

This is the first I'm hearing about it, so I'm not sick of "F Nintendo got F'ed by Nintendo" yet. 😉
Anyway, I've seen people/outlets who managed to get a product for review from alternative sources rather than the company who makes the product still respect embargo date even though they never agreed to an embargo. Not because they're worried about what the manufacturer will think or do, but out of respect for fellow reviewers who still have to wait for embargo to lift. So yeah, zero sympathy for people who agree to embargo and then break it. Especially when there are others out there going above and beyond in the integrity department.

Nintendo is in the right… sucks for the parties that were not involved or the employees of FNintendo that will get F'd over by this one reviewer breaking the NDA. But, its Nintendo's right to decide who they want to work with so… its a shame

I fully agree with the guy being fired and personally getting blacklisted from the industry (granted I feel that this leak did way more for hyping the games than Nintendo did given the piss poor drip feed approach they took with Sword and Shield reveals, he did still break NDA), but basically killing the site and losing everyone else their jobs over it was a step too far. I mean, was FNintendo supposed to big brother the guy and constantly monitor him off the clock?

I'm glad the leaks happened, it helped me save money. But if you're gonna leak info, you have to be ready for the consequences.

Love the drama leaks create. It just adds to the hype. Especially when it leads to a social media back-and-forth…

The leaker broke the rules and now the site must suffer the consequences.

Can;t stand leakers. They should put fines into the NDA's but companies could go after Damages as well. I think that News Site ruined themselves.
